Facing The Mountain...

Beautifully restored, Seaforth Country Lodge has been rooted at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains for more than a century.

Originally a farm named Esperanza, Pat and Helen McKenzie bought and renamed Seaforth in 1892. History tell us that in the early years of their stay, farming conditions left them quite literally ‘between a rock and a hard place’.

Legend has it that Pat became a transporter for several years to generate an income during this extremely difficult time.

This resourceful and determined couple’s efforts were rewarded and decades later, in the care of their children and grandchildren, the farm became a highly successful dairy farm. In around 1998 the farm was eventually sold and divided, and today, the original Seaforth homestead that we know and love is open to nature lovers from around the world.

Only a small number of world heritage sites can boast the distinction of double recognition, and in this instance, the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park is lauded for it’s vast authentic San Rock Art sites, and it’s unique abundance of biological diversity.

At Seaforth Country Lodge, our small, friendly team works hard to ensure that your stay is unforgettable. We look toward to welcoming you to the magic of the mountains…
